Lakki Marwat was created as an administrative district on July 1st 1992.
Prior to that it was a Tehsil of Bannu district. Lakki lies at the tale-end
of the Marwat (Tribe) area that is why it is called Lakki meaning tail in
the local dialect.

percent of population. However Punjabi,Urdu and Saraiki are also
widely understood.
The majority of the people are rural and farmers. Most literate young people
look for government jobs. A large number of them have gone to Middle
East to earn their livelihood.
Climate of Lakki is arid to semi-arid; dry and hot in summer and cool in
winter. June is the hottest month with maximum and minimum temperatures,
ranging between 44 to 27
degree Celsius respectively.
The major crops are wheat, gram, maize, sugarcane and vegetables. Fruits include
dates, melon and water melon. Canals from Baran Dam and river Kurram irrigate
the land. Tubewell, lift irrigation and Rod Kohis also irrigate a
small portion of land. Timely rain, if available, is the only hope for the
farmers.
